Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

The short version: Drift keeps your data on your device. There's no account, and we don't run a server that collects your listening. The only information that leaves your phone is what's needed to show ads, process a purchase, load podcasts you choose, or reach a server you connect yourself.

Drift ("the app") is made by Rebel Intelligence Detachment LLC ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Drift.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in Drift is stored locally on your phone and is not sent to us:

We can't see any of this — it stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you have Android backup turned on, your device may include this app data in your own Google backup; that's controlled by your device settings, not by us.

Ads (Google AdMob)

The free version of Drift shows banner ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure those ads, Google's advertising SDK may collect information such as your device's advertising ID, IP address, and general app-interaction and device data. This is handled by Google, not by us, and is governed by Google's policies:

You can reset your advertising ID or turn off ad personalization in your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads). Buying Drift's premium upgrade removes ads.

Purchases (Google Play Billing)

If you buy the premium upgrade, the purchase is processed by Google Play. We never receive your card or payment details — Google handles the transaction and tells the app only whether you're entitled to premium. See Google Play's terms and privacy policy for how your payment information is handled.

Podcasts you choose

When you search for or play a podcast, Drift requests the show's feed and artwork directly from the podcast's host or its servers. Like any web request, those include your device's IP address, and they're subject to those hosts' own privacy policies. We don't log what you search for or listen to.

Your own media

Permissions

Drift asks for only what it needs to play audio:

What we collect

We, the developer, do not collect personal information directly, and Drift has no login or account. The only data that leaves your device is what's described above: ad data handled by Google, purchase processing handled by Google Play, requests to podcast hosts you choose, and communication with a server you connect. We do not sell your personal information.

Children

Drift is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app shows ads, we recommend it for teens and adults.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version on this page.
